VA Community Care

Bodywork Services Paid for by VA Insurance

We’re honored to support veterans through the VA Community Care Network. If you're a veteran interested in massage therapy through the VA, here's what you need to know:

Step 1: Getting a Referral Through the VA

To receive massage therapy services at our practice through the VA, you must first obtain a referral (called a Standardized Episode of Care, or SEOC) from your VA primary care provider or another specialist in the system. This referral process must be completed through the VA and can take varying amounts of time.

Once approved, your referral may be sent directly to us. You’re also welcome to call us directly once your referral is in place—we’ll do our best to match you with an available certified therapist.

👉 We cannot see veterans through this program without an active VA referral.

Step 2: First SEOC — 12 Appointments in 90 Days

Your initial SEOC will include 12 massage therapy sessions, to be used within 90 days from the date your first appointment is scheduled. These sessions are use-it-or-lose-itunused sessions do not carry over after the 90-day window. There is no copay for these sessions.

We’ll work with you to:

  • Assign your referral to a VA therapist taking new clients

  • Make sure your schedule and theirs are a good match

  • Get you started with consistent weekly appointments

Step 3: Requesting a Second SEOC

If you’re experiencing positive benefits and would like to continue care, you may request a second SEOC. This includes another 12 sessions, which can be used over 6 months. These sessions are more flexible in pacing and can be scheduled according to your needs and your therapist’s recommendations.

To request a second SEOC:

  1. Let your therapist and/or our phone staff know you'd like to do so.

  2. We will prepare and submit the necessary paperwork to the VA.

  3. If possible, provide the name and email of your VA Community Care contact—this allows us to send your paperwork directly to them in addition to uploading it to the VA system.

  4. We highly suggest you also communicate this request directly to your Community Care contact. We've seen this speed up approval times.

Important: We can only submit a request for a second SEOC after at least 8 of your initial 12 appointments have been completed. Approval timelines vary widely—some requests are granted within a week, while others can take several months.

After the Second SEOC

Once the second set of 12 sessions has been completed, no additional sessions can be authorized under the same referral and diagnosis code. If further care is needed, you would need to start a new referral process with your VA provider.

Therapist Availability & Limitations

  • Not all of our therapists are certified through the VA. We’ll match you with someone who is approved and whose schedule aligns with yours.

  • Due to the low reimbursement rate from the VA, we’re only able to accept a limited number of active VA referrals at any one time. This ensures we can sustain the program while continuing to offer high-quality care.

Already Have a Referral?

If you already have a VA massage therapy referral and would like to receive your care at our practice, please give us a call. We’ll check therapist availability and confirm if we’re able to accept it.
